Couple have a million reasons to be cheerful

A Maidstone couple who won £1 million on the lottery are thanking Lady Luck for turning their lives around when they were on the brink of despair.

Naturally Adam and Amy Pryor were over the moon when their EuroMillions Millionaire Maker lucky dip ticket came up trumps.

However, the win has been especially sweet as it will enable them to be there for their eightmonth-old daughter, Charlotte, who has significant health problems.

Earlier this month Mrs Pryor made the difficult decision not to return to work so she could look after their little girl, while her husband was working all the overtime he could get, barely seeing his family, to make ends meet.

But now, just a week later, they are planning to buy a new home and have their first holiday together, as well as a dream trip to Disneyland.

Mr Pryor said: “I don’t really believe in fate but on this occasion I think I might, the timing of our win really couldn’t have been better as until last Tuesday the future was looking a bit grim.”

The couple’s journey to millionaire status started at 6am last Wednesday when Mr Pryor received an email to say he’d had a win.

The 33-year-old, who works in quality assurance, said: “I guessed it was a couple of quid so ignored the message.

“About an hour later I decided to log on to my account and slightly bleary-eyed thought it was £1,000 until my sleepy brain processed that there were too many noughts. I turned to Amy saying ‘we’ve won a million’ but she just told me to shut up and stop being so silly.”

Now the pair are busy planning for the future.

Nursery manager Mrs Pryor, 28, said: “It goes without saying we would give it all back in a heartbeat if it meant that Charlotte’s health problems would vanish but that’s not possible so instead this money will mean that we can do our absolute best for her, now and for the future.

“It’s just amazing, and goes to show you never know what the future will hold. £1m won’t change Charlotte’s health but it will dramatically change how we can manage it and that’s a miracle in itself.”
