TOO EARLY TO LOOK AT THE TABLE

Reece Prestedge won’t be looking at the National League table for a while yet. Prestedge helped Maidstone to their third win of the season after winning back his place against Woking. And he kept his spot for the win at Eastleigh on Tuesday night. It’s a tight league but the season’s only 10 games old and Prestedge is more interested in building up points before winter sets in – a time, he feels, when Maidstone will come into their own. He said: “To be honest, I don’t start looking at the table until November/December time. It’s too early to look at the moment. “We’re just trying to pick up as many points as we can before the Christmas period and then I think we’ve got more in the changing room than most clubs have to be able to get through the horrible weather.” Prestedge, an unused substitute in the last two games, justified his recall in Stones’ victory over Woking with an excellent performance in the holding midfield role. He got the nod over Jai Reason and Jack Paxman and looked every bit the player who starred on loan last season. Prestedge said: “Maybe I was a little bit fresher after having a couple of games out but I was glad to be back in the side and getting a win, which is the most important thing. “I had no qualms with being left out. I came off at Sutton and the lads that came on did well, turned the game and they’ve fully deserved their chance. “The gaffer picks a side and hopefully they go out and do the business but it’s nice to get back in. “It’s good to have the competition. You’re not always thinking you’re going to start every game because you know someone’s always trying to push you. It’s what’s needed.” Prestedge caught the eye but felt Saturday’s victory was all about the team. He said: “I thought everyone played well. I was feeling it in the last 15 minutes but we grafted hard. “As soon as they scored I think we just grafted to get that extra goal that we needed to win the game. “We didn’t stop and we could have had four or five.”
