‘Flour-bomb yobs could have caused fatal crash’

A pregnant mum was left shaken after her car was targeted in a drive-by flour bomb attack near Headcorn.

Abby Jones, 30, was heading south along Maidstone Road about 9.30pm on Monday after attending a church meeting in Loose. As she passed another vehicle she saw a flash of white and blue and heard an “almighty bang”.

With nowhere safe to stop she continued to her home in Headcorn where she found remnants of a kilogram bag of Sainsbury’s self-raising flour lodged in her car’s bumper.

Mrs Jones decided to visit the store in High Street and was told by the cashier a group of three men had purchased three packets earlier in the evening.

The mum-of-two was travelling at 50mph and estimates the missile hit her car at a combined speed of 120mph.

It caused about £700 of damage to the bumper, grille and number plate.

Mrs Jones said she was more concerned that if it had hit her windscreen 2ft higher it could have caused a serious or fatal accident.

She believes it is likely others were targeted the same night.

She said: “I was quite angry and having to pay the insurance excess was not good.

“It could have been so much worse. If the flour bag had gone through the windscreen I could have swerved.

“That road is lined with trees and there are no barriers or other safety features.

“I could have also hit another vehicle and that is how fatal accidents happen.

“It was definitely malicious. If they carry on doing it someone could get killed. I want to stop it happening because next time it could be an elderly person or someone who is not as lucky.”
