Do take cakes for everyone to enjoy. Donations for the raffle would also be appreciate­d. Pre-school children welcome. Aunt Sally’s Kitchen will be hosting a coffee morning also on Friday which will run all day. All coffee and cake sales of that day will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. The Baptist Church is holding its Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday, September 30 from 10.30am-noon, with cakes, coffee and craft items for sale. Get Together: At the next meeting on Wednesday, October 4 at the Baptist Church from 2.30-4pm, there will be the chance to have a chat, play a few games and spend a time of fellowship together with some refreshmen­ts. Hi Kent: The next hearing aid after care clinic is on Wednesday, October 4 from 10-11.30am in the library. Clinics are run by trained volunteers who can change batteries, clean and re-tube hearing aids free of charge. Harvest service: On Sunday October 1, there will be a joint service at 10.30am in Holy Cross Church. Usual harvest gifts, cash donations will go towards homeless care. Church Christmas cards: After the new way and classic services blank greetings cards will be for sale. Prices are £5 for a pack of 10. All proceeds will benefit Holy Cross. Marden Motor Club: On Tuesday, October 3, the club will be meeting outside Marden library for a second navigation evening exercise. All are welcome to this informal monthly session in the bar. The Almshouses: The trustees of Yalding Almshouses will meet on Monday October 2. The almshouses are available to six single women who reside in, or have close connection­s with, Yalding, Laddingfor­d or Collier Street. Currently there are no vacancies. School photograph­s: On Tuesday, October 3, individual and family group photograph­s will be taken at school. Pre-school siblings should be taken to the school hall at 8.45am if you would like them to be in a photograph. Charity quiz: The Maidstone branch of the RNLI is holding a fundraisin­g quiz on Friday, October 13 at Fant Community Hall, Fant Lane, beginning at 7.30pm. Maximum of eight per team. PARISH COUNCIL: Cllr Gordon Down would welcome support for his litter picking campaign. If you would like to volunteer, phone him on 07963 150954. The parish council has agreed to an annual grant of £6,500 to the village hall for the current financial year. A vote of thanks was given to Cllr Taghdissia­n who has, regrettabl­y, tendered her resignatio­n. A casual vacancy will be announced and the procedure put in place to find a replacemen­t. In the meantime she would be asked about the position on the Village News and considerat­ion would have to be given as to who would replace her on the finance committee and the website editorial group. Cllr Potts had volunteere­d to become the parish council’s permanent liaison representa­tive with the village hall management committee. There had been six reported crimes; three thefts, one case of criminal damage, one burglary and one public order offence. The owner of Hamilton House was to be contacted to determine what action was planned to remove or repair the damaged wall and trip hazard adjacent to Page and Wells. The borough council had been instructed to replace and install the seat in the bus shelter at a cost of £260 plus Vat. KCC Highways had been approached again regarding the clearing of surface grit from footways following the resurfacin­g of Stockett Lane in May. Highways claimed that the work had been completed but it was agreed the they would return to sweep again. A substantia­l number of motorists had been caught speeding during the recent Speedwatch initiative­s and had been issued with notices.
