K Sports reached the first round of the FA Vase while manager Kris Browning was on a stag do in Benidorm.

Graham Martin and Barry Fenn took charge in Browning’s absence as goals from Jason Perry, James Alderman, Liam Dawson and Caine Smith earned a 4-2 home win over Abbey Rangers in the final qualifying round on Saturday.

Browning said: “Originally, we had a free weekend when the fixtures came out so we booked Benidorm.

“I picked the team and stayed in touch with Graham and Bazza, so I knew what was going on.

“I can’t believe we’re in the first round of the FA Vase.”

Sports have been drawn away to Canterbury City on the weekend of October 21, with £ 825 in prize money on offer.

High-flying Sports return to Southern Counties East Division 1 action at home to Phoenix Sports Reserves on Saturday (3pm).

Browning, whose side are second, has called on locals to show their support at the old Cobdown Sports & Social Club site.

He said: “We do struggle to get people along – that’s the only disappointing thing at the moment.

“I’m hoping with Maidstone being away, it might encourage a few more to come.”

Third-placed Snodland Town, fresh from a weekend off, host Lewisham Borough.
