Sweet success at school fair

There was plenty of action at the Eastboroug­h Primary School fair. Children at the school in Vinters Road, Maidstone, were able to try the stocks, play splat the rat, and go on a lollipop hunt, while parents could buy home-made jams and other treats, or visit the refreshmen­t tent. There was a traditiona­l coconut-shy, hook the duck, and a tombola, as well as a street-dance display by the IPA dance school. Early Years leader Charlotte McClymont said: “We all had a lot of fun and raised £2,564 for the school.” an Hour of Prayer at 11am. Open invitation, come whenever you can. On Thursday, October 19, there is a drop in afternoon to include various games. All welcome. Trevor Sandford: On Saturday, October 28 at 7.30pm in the memorial hall, there is a musical evening in memory of Trevor Sandford. The concert will include music from the Kent Chamber Choir, the Bach Choir, Front Room and the Water Into Wine Band. Raise the roof: On Saturday, December 2, there will be a Christmas fair in aid of Raise the Roof for Holy Cross Church. Some stalls are still available. Music at Woolpack: On Sunday, October 15 from 7.30pm Mick’s Hot Licks Band will be performing at the Woolpack. The evening will feature music from the Fifties to the Seventies. Go along and enjoy! Road safety scheme: It has taken years to get there, plus much discussion and lots of emails, but KCC Highways have finally finished the road safety scheme for the village primary school. The solar powered flashing 20mph signs are in place on all approaches to the school and all of the road markings have been completed. Parish council: The next meeting of the planning, highways and transporta­tion committee and open spaces committee will take place in the Council Chamber at the community centre on Monday, October 16 at 7.30pm. Village walk: On Saturday October 14, join a guided stroll around historic Ditton starting at 3pm from the Heritage Centre, New Road. Adults £2.50, children and seniors £1.50. The walk is based on the new Discover Ditton publicatio­n. Copies will be available to purchase in the Heritage Centre. Tea Dance: Kent Active Retirement Associatio­n is holding a tea dance on Friday, November 17 at the community centre. Doors open at 1.30pm for 2pm and ends at 5pm. This will be a great fun afternoon for the over 50s with lots of line and sequence dancing. Tickets cost £5 and include tea and cakes and a continuous flow of cold drinks. Entrance by ticket only.
