Gibbons goal provides boost

Maidstone are fifth in the East Women’s League Premier Division after making it back-toback wins with a 3-2 success at home to Old Loughtonians. They made a positive start but couldn’t make the breakthrough in the first half as the sides went into the interval still goalless. Maidstone fell behind to a goal from a short corner after the break but were soon level thanks to an excellent goal from player-of-the-match Katie Gibbons. The hosts took control after that and McClintock strode through the Loughts defence and fired against the backboard to make it 2-1. Loughts pushed hard for an equaliser but Maidstone’s defence held strong and they doubled their lead from a short corner. It wasn’t quite job done as Loughts scored late so the final whistle came as a relief to Maidstone, who followed up the previous week’s 1-0 win over Norwich Dragons with another three points. Maidstone’s 4th XI won 4-2 at Remnants. They looked in control at half-time thanks to goals from Emma White, Claire Hogan and Kay Bowley. However, Remnants pulled two back to make a game of it before Nicky Bourne settled Maidstone nerves. Michelle Garrett and Claire Hogan were named joint players-of-the-match. Maidstone men’s 1st XI made it two wins from two in Kent/ Sussex Regional 1. They won 2-0 at home to Holcombe 1A and are second behind leaders Eastbourne on goal difference. The 4ths strolled to a 9-1 win against Holcombe with four players hitting two goals each. They were Richard Chillcott, Mark Weller, Gavin Mell and Tim Chambers, while Andy Moodie netted the other Maidstone goal.
