Defence withstand late pressure

K Sports

-

K Sports dug in for a 2-1 win against Old Williamsonians 3rds in Kent Open Premier B. James Clarkley set up Dave Wood for the opener from a long corner and the second goal came after half-time, Neil Mitchell running into space and Matt Sharp tipping the ball past the keeper. Wills pulled one back late on but Sports, for whom Michael Nock was man-of-the-match, held on to make it two wins out of two. The men’s 2nds also won, 3-2 against Herne Bay 5ths in Kent Open Division 4. Gavin Fisher flicked home Simon Boniface’s effort to break the deadlock, only for Bay to equalise. Jamie Carmillet restored the lead just before half-time and goalkeeper Mike Newmarch made a string of good saves. Herne Bay levelled things again but K Sports won it with a strike from the top of the D by captain Andy Smith. It was a different story for the 3rds, who lost 3-2 to Sutton Valence 4ths in the same division having led 2- 0. K Sports ladies were beaten 2- 0 by New Beccehamian 2nds but the score didn’t reflect their efforts in Kent Division 3. Jo Fowler was on particularly good form, intercepting many Beccs passes. The ladies’ 2nds picked up their first league win in Kent Division 5 thanks to an excellent team effort against Faversham. It took them until 10 minutes into the second half to make the breakthrough, Kayleigh Smith converting a cross from Sue Rea. Faversham equalised straight away but K Sports scored three more goals, Rea doubling her tally from a short corner routine.
