Tonbridge dropped to ninth place in National 2 South after losing 47-24 to Redingensians on Saturday. Juddians started the day above their Reading opponents, who were making their first visit to the Slade, but produced a disappointing performance. Tonbridge saw little of the ball and were outplayed as the visitors led 19-0 at half-time. The second half didn’t start too well either as Redingensians extended their lead to 33-0. At that point, Tonbridge rallied and drove over the line for their first try, scored by young replacement lock Rory McHugh. A second try followed a few minutes later, Mike O’Sullivan finishing another drive and Nathan Holmes converting. And Judds scored again two minutes later, McHugh crossing the line after Redingensians faltered at a line-out. The visitors halted the comeback with two converted tries although Tonbridge finished with a flourish when McHugh completed his hat-trick, Holmes with the extras. Tonbridge go to second-placed Chinnor on Saturday.

Fixtures: Saturday: RFU Senior Vase first round: Petersfield v Aylesford, Sheppey v Crawley. Aylesford lost Dave Tenters to a broken arm but were too strong for battling Sheppey on Saturday.

Tenters suffered a double fracture and a dislocation in making a challenge and will be out of action for some time.

But unbeaten Bulls have a strong squad this year and moved up to third in London 3 South East with their latest victory.

Coach Jay Jenkins said: “I’m pleased with the performance.

“We played good rugby and it’s nice to see a number of things we’re working on at training come to fruition for an extended period of time.

“Sheppey have been troubled by injuries and unavailability this season but despite them being on the back foot for most of the game, they kept working hard and nearly got over the line a couple of times.”

Aylesford led 41- 0 at half-time and completed a shut-out victory after the break.

There were two tries each for Dion Comeford, Ben Pass, Michael Jackson and John Rumsey, with Sam Proctor and Jonathan Alderton also scoring.

Comerford took his tally to 24 points by adding seven conversions. Jenkins added: “We set a challenge at half-time not to concede and the boys did that.

“Sheppey rallied and asked some questions but we kept them out and were able to get back up the other end.

“The big thing this year is the squad are benefiting from competition for places.

“The entire 2nd XV backline could have played for the 1sts on Saturday.”

Aylesford travel to Petersfield in the first round of the Senior Vase on Saturday.

Jenkins said: “I’m going to give an opportunity to two or three of the wider squad who have not had a chance yet.”

Aylesford 2nds’ game against Deal & Betteshanger 2nds was abandoned after an opponent suffered a serious neck injury.

Jenkins said: “We wish the Deal player all the best.”

Bulls, winning 35- 0 at the time, took the Premier 2 East points.
