Survivor Genna keen to share her miracle
A miracle mum is set to open the doors to her own slimming club four years on from a near fatal cardiac arrest while swimming.
Genna Kelly, from Coxheath, awoke from a coma in hospital in June 2013 after slipping out of consciousness at Mote Park Leisure Centre.
The 33- year- old’s life was turned upside down as she was delivered the devastating news she suffered from a rare heart condition.
Genna is now a Slimming World consultant following her brush with death and is eager to pass on her knowledge.
The mother-of-two said: “I was at Slimming World already because I suffer from severe asthma. I could never do a lot of exercise anyway, and I had my cardiac arrest leading up to my wedding.
“I woke from a coma at St Thomas’ Hospital and everything became about becoming fit for my family.”
She was diagnosed with Andersen- Tawil syndrome, which affects the heart’s rhythm and causes periodic paralysis.
She now has to take 12 tablets a day but has hailed the help of Slimming World.
Genna, a former pharmaceutical worker, said: “Slimming World isn’t your typical slimming club because you have the love and support from people who know how I feel.
“I’m like any other girl and I put my make-up on in the morning, but I suffer with my heart.
“I had to have lots of testing because I could pass it on to my children. There was a 50% chance of passing it on, and luckily my two sons don’t have it.”
Genna is three stone lighter since her cardiac arrest and opens the doors at her Boughton Monchelsea club to fellow slimmers on Wednesday, November 1.
It starts at 7.30pm at Boughton Village Institute, in Church Street. To find out more, visit www.slimmingworld.co.uk.
