Ford motors to victory

Maidstone ladies’ 1sts lost 4-0 to Sevenoaks in the East League Premier Division but again felt the outcome could have been different. They applied early pressure and forced plenty of short corners in Saturday’s home game but couldn’t score. A quick breakaway led to Oaks’ opener and they scored again before the break. Coach Jeremy Swaffer rallied the girls at halftime and they dominated possession, putting together some nice moves, only to concede twice more on the counter. Man-of-the-match Louise Cassey showed strength and leadership in defence. The ladies’ 3rds have their first win of the season in Kent Division 3. They’ve been playing well and have the victory they deserve after edging the University of Kent 1-0. The Students had a lot of the ball but couldn’t break through a strong defence, with junior Helen Scott impressing. Rachel Davis scored the winner, with mum Julie named player-of-the-match for her tenacious tackling and attacking play. The hard-working ladies’ 4ths won 1-0 at BBHC 3rds in Kent Division 4. Early pressure was rewarded when Claire Hogan received the ball at the top of the D and calmly beat the keeper. Goalkeeper Laura Gregory made a couple of good saves to preserve the lead while the tireless Nicky Coomansingh was named player-of-the-match. In-form Maidstone men’s 4ths beat Old Bordenians 9-2 in Kent Open Division 2. Man-of-the-match Ian Lowe scored four times, with Andie Moodie (2), Mark Weller, Paul Holkham and Gavin Mells taking the team’s tally to 21 goals in three games.
