McKimm hits out at Angels

Tonbridge

-

Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm knows how Jose Mourinho feels after a ‘disgusting’ second-half performance at the weekend.

McKimm was appalled by Angels’ collapse in a 2-1 home defeat by Bostik Premier strugglers Tooting & Mitcham.

Joe Turner had given them an early lead but they were pegged back before half-time and wound up empty-handed after a Callum Adonis-Taylor own goal.

McKimm questioned his side’s passion, just as Mourinho did after Manchester United’s shock defeat at Huddersfield.

He said: “The second half was disgusting. I don’t normally say things like that but I personally felt let down.

“That’s how I felt over the weekend and still feel now to some extent, especially after we played so well against Leiston for 95 minutes on the Tuesday night.

“The second half just wasn’t us and I didn’t see it coming. It was nowhere near good enough, hence we lost the game.

“I’ve listened to interviews from the top level and if you’re getting Premier League players and managers talking about heart and desire and passion lacking then it can happen at any level.

“I’m thinking of the Man United game and it was no different at our game.

“You can’t just rely on ability to win a game. You’ve got to rely on all the other stuff first.”

McKimm wants a response when Tonbridge host Bostik North Heybridge in the FA Trophy first qualifying round on Saturday.

He said: “They’ve been beaten once all season, are a good side going forward and solid at the back. There’s no way this game is a given.

“They may have watched us on Saturday and if they did they’ll probably be thinking they’ve got a great chance, which they have if we play like that again.

“It’ll be a tough game but it’s up to us to work hard at training and get geared up for it.

efender George Beaven could be back in the next week or so after a scan showed nothing more serious than severe bruising.

Striker Alex Akrofi (head injury) is doubtful for Heybridge but should be fit for the League Cup tie at home to Hythe on Tuesday night.
