Graffiti and photos on display at heritage centre
The Twitch Heritage Centre in the basement of Douces Manor in St Leonard’s Street, West Malling, used to be the headquarters and mess for flying officers from RAF West Malling. It still has graffiti on the walls written by the pilots during the Second World War. It will be open to the public on Remembrance Sunday from noon till 4pm. Admission is free.
There is an exhibition at the centre entitled Freda’s Subject, which contains pictures and details of some of the individuals and families who were the subjects of Freda Barton’s photographs.
She was a professional photographer who recorded life in West Malling between 1905 and 1940.
