Grant gives village a playground worth swinging by for
Children in Hunton can enjoy an improved play area thanks to a grant from the Kent County Playing Fields Association.
The playground area at the King George V Playing Field off West Street has been provided with new safety surfaces and a “nest” swing, after the association’s trustee Dave Byford presented a cheque for £1,000 to the chairman of Hunton Parish Council, Gary Thomas.
The Kent County Playing Fields Association is now looking for further good causes to support. In 2015, it launched the Edwin Boorman Memorial Fund, in honour of the former chairman of the Kent Messenger Group, who was also a patron of the association.
Mr Boorman was always extremely keen to encourage young people to develop to their full sporting potential.
The memorial fund enables the association to make grants each year in support of fresh schemes by clubs and other voluntary organisations to provide additional sporting opportunities for young people between the ages of 10 and 18 years.
Examples of projects that would qualify for help include the formation of sports clubs for young people, providing skills coaching courses for youngsters and organising courses for coaches and other officials that will ultimately benefit youngsters.
The association’s president, Robert Horner, said: “We consider it vital to provide more sporting opportunities for youngsters and these awards are one way in which the association can make a contribution.”
A grant of up to £300 will be made towards each successful scheme, with the next round of awards made in May.
Application forms may be obtained from the Kent County Playing Fields Association, 24 Tennison Way, Maidstone, ME15 9GE, or by email to kcpfa@hot- mail.co.uk. They can also be downloaded from their website at www.kentpfa.org.uk The closing date for applications is Friday, April 13.
