Why local villages in film set in LA?
I recently watched again (for at least the fourth time) the film The Lincoln Lawyer. For the uninitiated, it is a film released in 2011, based on a book by the American author Michael Connelly, and stars Matthew McConaughey as rather sleazy and sharp witted Los Angeles defence lawyer Michael (Micky) Haller, who conducts most of his business from his exconvict chauffeur driven Lincoln car. Hence the title. About half way in, Haller becomes a suspect in the murder of his private investigator Frank Levin (William H Macy) and the Los Angeles Police come to his home with a search warrant. While they’re searching he’s standing to one side letting them get on with it.
Then the camera begins panning around the room and an image of a black and white poster appears behind him. On it are the following words: Parkwood via Sutton Road, Banky Meadow via Tonbridge Road, and Senacre Wood.
These are all locations associated with Maidstone, so how come it appears on a wall in 3104 Minnesota Street Los Angeles? (The location used as Haller’s home). Anyone have an explanation? Christopher Hudson-Gool, Sutton Road, Maidstone politics are as popular.
Many of us are proud of the multiculturalism in Maidstone which showcases itself in vibrant events like the Maidstone Mela and also exists all year round in Maidstone, the proud home of The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers. While Ukip rejects multiculturalism I believe it can be the building blocks of a strong society. We shouldn’t make multiculturalism a scapegoat. The real issue is the financial and social inequalities within our society exacerbated by underfunded and badly run public services.
