No progress on transfers

Maidstone have drawn a blank in the transfer market this week. They are working hard to strengthen the squad, including a replacement for Joe Pigott after the striker joined AFC Wimbledon but it’s easier said than done. Boss Jay Saunders said: “We’re trying. I had a list of 10 players that are of interest to me. Six of them have gone elsewhere in the Football League. “I want to bring in people with the calibre to make a real difference to us and if anything be players that will maybe kick on again, like Pigs has. “That’s what we’re looking for and when you’re doing that it takes time to get the right ones. “We might have to be patient but I don’t want to be too patient because we are stretched. We’ll keep looking.” Stones host an improving Eastleigh side on Saturday as they look for a first National League win in 11 games. Eastleigh have won three and drawn two of their five games since former Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler stepped up from his role as assistant manager into the top job. Saunders said: “They’ve got a good squad. Hessy’s gone in there and got them organised, doing the basics well and they’re a real threat.” Maidstone then go to AFC Fylde for a rearranged game on Tuesday. The original fixture, last November, was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

supporters’ meeting at the Gallagher tonight (Thursday, 7pm) will outline stadium expansion plans.
