Millions of pounds to be spent on park’s makeover
Millions of pounds is set to be pumped into making major improvements to Maidstone’s Mote Park.
The recreation site has been earmarked for a £4.3 million makeover, with work set to get under way next month.
In February, work on £1.4 million of improvements will begin, including an adventure zone with a high ropes course, crazy golf, play area and a refurbished skate park.
Kier Construction will be carrying out the work, which is expected to take about seven months to complete.
As work progresses, visitors won’t be able to access the park’s play area, skate park or overspill car park for between six to eight weeks.
The cafe and toilets will remain open to visitors along with the rest of the park.
No date has been set for the closure, but early estimates expect them to take place some time after the Easter holidays.
David Pickett, chairman of the Maidstone Borough Council’s heritage, culture and leisure committee said: “We understand that visitors may be disappointed that some of the facilities are not available whilst this initial phase is completed.
“However, we hope that what we are trying to bring to the park for everyone far outweighs any disruption caused.
“We are very pleased that this project will soon be under way. Mote Park is widely regarded as one of the best parks in the borough and this investment will see its position as one of Kent’s top attractions secured.”
Following initial works, which are expected to be finished by the end of the summer, the park is also planning a new visitor centre and improved parking facilities.
Paul Abrahams, operations director for Kier, said: “This scheme will be a great asset to the area and we are looking forward to delivering this project to the highest standard, leaving a lasting legacy for families to enjoy.”
During construction Kier will operate a 24-hour emergency telephone line for anyone who has concerns relating to the building work taking place, on 0208 308 5051.
