Kent Messenger Maidstone

Town needs its high speed service

-

Senior reporter Senior reporter I read with shock your headline Maidstone West could lose its high speed service to London in the next rail franchise bid. Maidstone is the County Town of Kent.

It is ridiculous it should lose any high speed services to the capital, if anything there should be an increase in services.

Many young people rise early and return late after working in London.

They are trying to forge their careers returning home to Maidstone to spend money in the local economy.

They are already paying incredibly high prices for their rail fares.

Older people also need fast direct services to London for work/leisure/ access to ongoing journeys. This cannot be allowed to happen. The Department of Transport must not chose a bidder who will cut these services – it would be a backward step for Maidstone. C Durrant, Sittingbourne Road, Maidstone. Senior Reporter Senior Reporter because I have noticed, the alarming number of motorists failing to indicate their intentions at junctions. Even worse at roundabouts, especially the mini variety which often have exits reasonably close together. Only a few days ago, when approaching one of these roundabouts on a minor road, the motorist approaching from directly opposite myself, had no indicator on, therefore I assumed was intending to exit the roundabout into the direction I was leaving from. Then to my utter amazement proceeded to do a complete U-turn and mouthed obscenities when I Reporter Villages editor narrowly missed a collision.

Was I in the wrong or has the Highway Code changed? Mrs C.A Russell, via email.
