Cockayne finds scoring form

Sutton Valence

-

Rob Cockayne scored four goals in a 7- 0 win for Sutton Valence 4ths at K Sports 3rds on Saturday. He dummied the keeper for the opener after a good dribble by Chris Jackson and doubled his tally after good work by Chris Sheldon. Five minutes into the second half, Jackson squeezed a shot inside the post to make it 3- 0 and Cockayne completed his hat-trick with a shot from inside a crowded D. K Sports started to make mistakes and substitute Chris Stille netted the fifth goal for Valence after playing a one-two with Alex Stanford. Stanford then added his name to the list of scorers, running from halfway to beat the keeper, before Cockayne had the final word after K Sports left him unmarked. Gore Court’s slick corner routines proved their undoing time and again and this defeat – their ninth in 11 games – leaves Valence eight points adrift at the foot of the table with a goal difference of minus 50. Team: Henry Robinson, Dan Brooks, Ricky O’Neill, Jack Davies, James Padwick, Lewis Mitchell, Fred McVarish, Marcus Bawden, Chris Johnson, Kevin Kirkham, Alex Stamp, Alex Hodges. Maidstone ladies were beaten 4- 0 at home by City of Peterborough on Saturday.

A deflected shot gave Peterborough an early lead but Maidstone responded well and won three short corners in quick succession.

They were even awarded a penalty flick but it was saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

COP doubled their lead on the counter-attack after half-time and Maidstone had a goal disallowed before the visitors scored twice more to put the result beyond doubt.

Peterborough had two players carded for bad tackles but they are now third in the East League Premier Division while
