Autojumble a big success
In these days of gender equality, it seems there’s one area where women are still underrepresented – the autojumble sale. Car enthusiasts Geoff Martin and Mike Spencer organised Maidstone’s first indoor autojumble “for years” at the Lockmeadow Market Hall, and it was a great success. Several hundred people came through the doors looking to find a vital piece for the motor – almost all of them men. On offer from 50 stallholders was everything from a leather seat for a Mark 1 Ford Capri, to 6V lights, to door panels, speedometers, exhaust systems, points and distributors. Mr Spencer said: “There were some ladies who joined us, but as my wife says, it’s mainly ‘boys and their toys’.” Two follow-up sales have been organised on Sunday, May 27, and Sunday, October 14.
