Changes could bring speed limit cut
Changes to the A20 in Harrietsham could see the village’s speed limit drop to 30mph.
Kent County Council has put forward plans to improve the road for pedestrians, while bolstering links between new housing developments, existing homes and the village centre.
Among the plans is a suggestion to cut the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph, widen footpaths for a shared foot and cycle path, and upgrade the pelican crossing.
The 40mph speed limit could be extended at each end of the village. If the decision is taken to reduce the speed limit, it would mean a review of street lighting.
Funding would come from £925,000 from developers building in the area. If agreed, con- struction could start by the summer. Harrietsham Village Hall will host consultation events on Wednesday, February 21, from 5pm to 8pm, and on Monday, February 26, between noon and 3pm.
The consultation into the plan will open on Monday and finish on Sunday, March 18. See tinyurl. com/a20harrietsham and register for details.
