Late show is enough to defeat Maidstone

Maidstone

-

Maidstone ladies conceded five times in the last 15 minutes to lose 6-1 to leaders Ipswich in the East League Premier Division on Saturday. Stones had been playing well, taking the game to their opponents and putting them on the back foot in a highintensity start, even after falling behind. The equaliser came after a fine run of play, with Lizzie McClintock scoring from a short corner. Ipswich came out hard and fast in the second half but Maidstone held them off until a lapse in concentration triggered the late flurry. Man-of-the-match was Laura Jackson. The ladies’ 3rds won from a goal down at Burnt Ash in Kent Division 3 – their first victory this year. Ash made the stronger start and scored an early goal after missed tackles. Maidstone remained confident in their tactics and were rewarded with an equaliser from Nicky Coomansingh, a dominant force in the attacking line. The visitors scored against just before half-time with a well-worked penalty corner finished by captain Jaime Cronk. Maidstone were strong in both defence and attack and were unlucky not to add to their 2-1 lead. Player-of-the-match Julia Humphries stopped Burnt Ash with fine tackling.
