Another 200 parents needed
Kent County Council says all ages of children are in need of care.
Caroline Smith, KCC’s assistant director for corporate parenting, said: “We need foster carers in all areas of Kent – whether you can care for brothers and sisters together, offer an older child a permanent family home or want to find out more about caring for disabled children please contact us.
“Open your heart and begin your journey to becoming a foster carer for your local authority. Join us to make a real difference for the children of Kent.”
Tom and Janetta Sams from Harrietsham are now foster ambassadors, travelling to events across the county to encourage others to try fostering.
Mrs Sams said: “There’s a lot of support available: both from KCC and from other foster parents. You are never alone.”
Currently Kent has around 700 foster parents, but the county needs another 200.
Foster parents are paid between £258 and £436 a week - to include maintenance - depending on the age of the child. There are extra payments if the child has a disability.
Mrs Sams said: “One of the great things is that it is something that you can do together as a couple. You bounce ideas off each other.”
