MONEY GONE

Tumour teen forced home

-

A teenager battling a brain tumour is due to return to the UK after his family announced they can no longer afford his life-saving treatment.

Jayden Powell had travelled from his West Malling home to the Hallwang Clinic in Germany to undergo immunotherapy in a bid to fight a tumour which was first detected during an eye test last year.

The 17-year-old’s condition deteriorated dramatically last month and he was taken to the clinic in an ambulance.

Following an 11-hour drive he began his first course of immunotherapy thanks to funds raised by friends, family and the public.

Despite a huge £96,000 donation to cover the deposit of his care, Jayden now needs a further £150,000 to continue his treatment which is not available on the NHS.

It was previously revealed that it would cost £12,000 per week as he fought the brain tumour from his bed in Germany.

An update posted on Jayden’s fundraising page by his aunty Donna Andrews said: “We are going to have to bring Jayden home because costs are just too high to keep him at the Hallwang.

“I’m hoping we can get Avastin privately in the UK to keep him stabilized so we can raise more funds and return him to where he needs to be to get well.

“Secondly, Jayden’s tumour sample hasn’t arrived from the UK hospital so doctors here can’t make his specific vaccine to fight his cancer.

“He has been receiving phase one immunotherapy but to continue to phase two they need to match his tumour sample with vaccines and three weeks later we are still waiting with excuses from the UK as to why we haven’t received his sample.

“To clear him of his cancer we need at least a further £150,000 to complete phase two treatment.”
