Road has dangerous history

-

Villagers living along the Tonbridge Road in Wateringbury claim it was only a matter of time before tragedy struck.

The circumstances of Mr Overy’s death are not yet clear, but according to residents there has been a long, dangerous history of vehicles speeding along the narrow street, which only has a pavement on one side.

Mum-of-two Jess Roe, 35, has seen her car hit seven times in 18 months while parked outside her home, with other neighbours reporting similar situations.

“This is a conservation area so even though all the people here would be happy to move the railings back towards the houses so there’s more space on the road, we’re not allowed to by the council,” she said.

“I take my kids to school every morning and I find it nearly impossible to cross the road, there’s just no space, especially when the bins have been put out. The road is a nightmare. This is the first fatality since I moved here but honestly I’m surprised there hasn’t been more.”

Ms Roe was woken at 3am by the police on the morning of the crash and has been left shaken by the tragedy.

“It’s just been awful and there’s been a constant flow of friends and bikers laying tributes since it happened.

“It makes the hairs on the back of my neck spike up.

“I’m just really glad my kids weren’t here at the time to see it.”
