Counting cost of washouts

Kent Cricket will not lose out too much financially after a disappointing Canterbury Cricket Week.

The two Friday night Vitality Blast matches were cut short, while the Specsavers County Championship game with Leicestershire ended in two days.

Kent have offered discounted tickets for another match to the fans who were at last Friday’s Sussex T20 game, which saw only 11.2 overs bowled.

If there had been fewer than 10 overs then the Kent would have issued complete refunds but clubs are insured for that eventuality.

The aggregate attendances for those T20 fixtures had been over what the club had forecast with more than 6,300 at the Surrey match.

There was a small reduction in revenue on tickets and hospitality packages after the Championship match finished early.

However, nearly all exchanged day three Championship tickets for another matchday.

Kent Cricket CEO Ben Green said: “Everyone at the club was very disappointed that the weather intervened at our opening two T20 matches (at The Spitfire Ground) but we are appreciative of the loyal support of Kent members and supporters.

“We have been in touch with everyone who attended the (Sussex) fixture to offer discounted tickets for another match.

“The tournament was scheduled to make the most of the summer holidays when children are not at school and families can attend when the weather is usually better.”
