Ramadan looks the part

Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm is backing winger Adem Ramadan to have a bright future in the game. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season as he makes up for lost time – after spending 18 months out with a groin injury. McKimm is in doubt about the potential of the former Phoenix Sports player. “He has been out a long time,” said McKimm. “He came in for pre-season, he’s lively and causes problems. With Adem, he is a confidence lad. He has been out a long time, the boy needs to believe in himself more. The players believe in him and encourage him. “If he carries on progressing and doing well, then people will look at him. If he stands still and doesn’t do what he’s doing, then he’ll be at this level or below for the rest of his career. “There’s certain things he needs to get out of his game, we’ll work with that and will listen and try. “He’s a hard worker, he hasn’t just got the skills and thrills.” McKimm is also hoping for big things from Liam King, who was on the bench again at Hythe in last Saturday’s FA Cup win – with twogoal Alex Read keeping him out of the starting line-up. “Liam has never played at this level consistently,” said McKimm. “No-one has ever taken a gamble on him, which I don’t understand why, the boy’s a talent but you’ve got to give him a chance. At the minute, Ready is keeping him out with his goals but when he gets his opportunity I’m confident that he will take it.” Angels’ transfer embargo has now been lifted but McKimm’s budget has all been spent, although that could change after Tonbridge banked £6,000 in prize money by defeating Hythe. However, the Angels boss is not convinced he’d splash the cash – even if more became available. “We can sign players now but we’ve got no budget (left),” said McKimm. “The more of a cup run we have, I might go to the chairman and see if I can get another player or two in. “But at the moment do I need to get someone in because if I do that they’re going to sit on the bench and knock one of those youngsters off who don’t deserve it because they’ve worked hard all pre-season.” Bostik Premier leaders Angels, who have been handed a trip to Dulwich in the FA Cup second qualifying round, visit Brightlingsea on Saturday.
