Why it’s time to shake up the working week

-

Across the world the working week is changing.

Following suit with businesses in Europe, Africa and as far as New Zealand, one Kent business is opting for shorter weeks and longer days in a bid to keep staff happy and boost productivity.

New for Kent, but hardly groundbreaking worldwide, there are plenty of stories on reduced working hours or long weekends for everyone to wishfully read on a Friday afternoon.

Now workers across the county are wondering ‘when is it my turn?’

The likelihood of a four day week really does depend on the job you work - but the importance of a work-life balance covers all industries.

The digital age means swathes of the population carry their jobs in their pockets, meaning we can work on the go as well as at home.

Gone are the days of leaving work at the office.

Even still, our productivity could probably be higher.

Studies are showing a decreased a working week is making employees work smarter to make the most of their time in the office.

Their reward is more time to themselves, to do with as they wish, without the countdown until the week resets.

If we’re to preserve our personal lives and keep up productivity in a post-Brexit Britain, we might need to shake off manic Mondays and accept that nine to five is not the way to make a living.

Instead we should accept that people’s lives and the pressures on them are growing.

It doesn’t need to be a day off a week, but business owners great and small should always be looking out for new ideas to keep their employees happy.
