Oakwood all-conquering
Oakwood Park footballers have completed the set of schools titles.
Some of the squad had already won the District League, Kent Cup and high-profile National League. And they have the Under-19 Kent Premier League to go with their other medals after clinching the title with a 3-1 over Dane Court in the final game of the season.
Mickey Mantle’s hat-trick gave Oakwood the win they needed in horrible conditions.
Manager Steve Smith said: “This is an another incredible achievement from this recordbreaking squad. Some of these boys have played over 120 times for the school and to win everything they have is unprecedented in the school’s long sporting history.”
Oakwood started their campaign with a 4-0 win at Dover Grammar School thanks to Mantle (2), Oscar Brookes and Sammy Tansil. Next up was a record 8-1 win over Harvey Grammar School, with Shane Buckland, Ollie Debnam, Jamie Fagg, Luke Martin, Luke Angus and Mantle sharing the goals.
Emmanuel FanthomeHodgson’s penalty earned a 1-0 win over Maidstone Grammar School, then Evan Lewis and Mantle earned a 2-0 victory against Norton Knatchbull.
Tansil’s goal gave Oakwood a 1-1 draw against title rivals Simon Langton and he was also among the scorers, along with Evan Lewis, in a 5-3 win at QES.
The toughest game was against Borden, with Tansil’s late penalty earning a 2-1 win.
Debnam’s hat-trick helped Oakwood win their penultimate game 7- 0 at Chatham & Clardendon and with Langton held to a draw by Harvey, Oakwood knew the title would be theirs if they beat Dane Court.
