Full-back still on the market

Maidstone boss John Still says there are still no takers for Dan Wishart.

Left-back Wishart was made available after telling the club he wanted to stay at National League level following relegation.

United prepared for life without him by signing Noah Chesmain and Luke Pennell but he remains on the books.

Head of football Still wants to see the situation resolved as soon as possible.

He said: “When the season ended we spoke to Dan, like we did everyone else.

“Without us saying how we felt, Dan said he wanted to stay higher, which I understood. “But we can’t wait for Dan Wishart, we went out and got Noah Chesmain and Luke Pennell.

“Wish is still here but that ship’s sailed now. He was interested in finding something else.

“Well, we can’t wait for him, we’ve got to do our own team, haven’t we? We’ve done that and, with the greatest of respect, we want Wish to move on, for him and for us.

“I get no joy in having a player that’s not playing but we had two lads who wanted to come and play for the club and we had a player that wanted to leave.

“If he’d turned round on D-Day and said ‘I definitely want to stay here’ then we perhaps might have said, ‘OK, well, let’s only bring one player in’ but that wasn’t the case so we’ve done what we think professionally is the right thing to do.”

Wishart continues to train with the rest of the squad and has conducted himself well.

Still said: “He understands the situation that unless we have to, we’re not looking to play him but that doesn’t mean he can’t train with us.”
