Kent Messenger Maidstone

Band shoots for stardom with new album

-

A musician who once busked on the streets of Kent’s towns has rocketed to the top of the Amazon new releases chart with his band The Dualers.

Frontman Tyber Cranstoun, who grew up in Maidstone, fondly remembers playing in the County Town as a budding performer.

But now, the group’s colourful ska and reggae style is taking him and his bandmates to new heights.

Their latest album, Palm Trees and 80 Degrees, has spent the last six weeks going back and forth between the first and second position on the Amazon Hot New Released chart.

Due to be released tomorrow (Friday), the 14-track collection was vying with the top spot, surpassing Ed Sheeran’s newest album, No 6 Collaborations Project, to reach number one. Tyber and the rest of the group are waiting with baited breath to see how high it will go in the official album chart.

The nine-piece band, formed in 1999, tasted success in the singles chart before - entering the top 30 with their 2004 hit Kiss on The Lips, peaking at number 21, and again in 2005 with Truly Madly Deeply which reached 23rd place.

This time around, the 38-yearold frontman, whose family still live in East Farleigh, hopes their new release will give the band a lasting legacy.

“It’s a really, really happy and upbeat album,” he said.

“I went around the UK last year and met lots of fans and the main thing I came away with was how much our music means to them.

“Hearing about how uplifting our music is made me think ‘I’m going to do an album for those people’.”

The album is available for pre-order on Amazon for £11.52.
