Feat of double ton not sunk in
Leeds & Broomfield captain George Davis admits the reality of his historic double hundred is still sinking in.
Davis smashed 217 as his side thrashed Tonbridge in Kent Cricket League Division 3 on Saturday.
It’s the sixth-highest score by a Kent League batsman over the last decade, during which time only 14 other players have reached 200.
Davis said: “It’s pretty surreal. I don’t think it’s really sunk in. “I got messages from loads of different people who have played in the past and people from the 2nd XI so it definitely meant a lot.
“I’ve been at the club since I was six. I’ve never wanted to leave and I’m playing with some of my closest mates so it’s a nice atmosphere.
“I help out with some junior coaching and I always want to give back because it’s a big part of my life.”
The match was shortened because of rain so batting conditions were hardly ideal. Davis said: “Some water went under the covers so you had to be patient.
“It helped that I was batting with a 16-year-old and he was on nought for a while.
“I was telling him what I should be thinking as well. “I was more relieved getting past 100 and I said to Max Aitken, who I was batting with, ‘I’ve got to cash in now’ because I was middling everything.
“I let myself go at that point and the second hundred came off 36 balls.
“I had certain targets of where I wanted to hit the ball and I backed myself to do it. “Eventually I was caught at long-off. It was a full toss and I hit it pretty hard – but it went too flat.”
