Maidstone District Cricket Partnershi­p are inviting clubs to take part in their indoor six-a-side competitio­n to be staged this autumn.

It starts at the YMCA in Melrose Close on Sunday, October 6 (9-11.30am), and is duetolast1­0weeks.

Tonbridge Juddians under-13s have been nominated in the National Rugby Awards.

They’re finalists in the youth team of the year category, with the winners announced on August 29.

Maidstone swimmer Matt Burrows was in British Championsh­ip action in Glasgow last week.

Burrows, racing in the 13/14year age group, finished 10th in the 100m breaststro­ke after qualifying for the final with a time of 1min 11.35sec.

He clocked 33.08 in the 50m breaststro­ke, coming 14th overall, but just missing the finals.

A time of 2.34.42 in the 200m breaststro­ke heats took him through to the final where he achieved eighth place with a PB of 2.33.69.

Loose were joined by Bowls England and players from five different countries to help them celebrate their centenary last Wednesday.

Bowls England president Hazel Marke was greeted on the green by Loose president Don Pratt, followed by a buffet lunch, a game and tea.

The club said it was a great day and one they will all remember.

BOWLS:

Sprinter Conor Murphy claimed 100m and 200m wins at the Medway & Maidstone open meeting.

Athletes young and old, male and female, competed alongside each other in many of the events.

In the 100m, Murphy ran a winning time of 11.29sec, a personal best. Fellow under20 sprinter Joel Ogunfemi was placed third with a time of 11.57

Murphy was also the quickest in the 200m, with a time of 22.31. George Clements ran a season’s best 23.51.

Joel Shakespear­e (under-11) topped the timings in the under-13 75m heats with a time of 11.28. Jasmine Mark wasn’t far off that mark, with a time of 11.36, earning her a runner-up spot in the second heat. There were strong performanc­es for the M&M under-11 600m runners.

Joshua Amamoo ran a time of 2min 02.77sec, finishing ahead of Rose Crossley (2.03.54) and Sophie Stratford (2.04.42), who both claimed personal bests. Under-15 athlete Sarah Mitchell was second in the 800m under-15 event, just shy of a PB, with 2.32.39.

M&M dominated the 800m mixed race with senior athlete Tom Collins winning in a season’s best 2.07.67 ahead of clubmates Jack Crossley (V35, 2.08.35 PB) and under-15 runner Cameron Feathersto­ne (2.14.30 PB).

Chris Rampling was the second placed runner in the mile race for senior men, clocking a time of 4.39.96.

Collins was also in action in that race, finishing fourth with another SB time of 4.43.16.

In the under-13 long jump, Tom Walters’ leap of 3.42m was enough to win ahead of Shakespear­e, with 3.37. Vanessa Hannam threw a 10.11m in the shot to get the better of Ashford’s David Chambers.

Hoo Primary’s Connor Harris-Mann threw 7.03m in the shot put 3k. ventured out for a soaking, where Lee Parker won in 19.14.

He was just ahead of firsttime visitor Tony Bennett (19.18).

A close finish to the ladies’ race saw Hannah Mai-Flynn finish seventh overall in a PB of 20.50. Runner-up Pyllis Flynn (20.57) was ninth overall, taking the best age-graded score of 87.59%.

Two Dragons members ran the New Romney 10k with Neil Sweeney finishing in 54.48 and Viki Garrett in 1hr03min36­sec.

The WCF Simon Carter Golf Croquet World Championsh­ip began at Tunbridge Wells on Saturday despite the less than ideal weather. Pictured are members of the UK contingent as 19 countries were represente­d, with players battling it out over venues in Sussex as well as Tunbridge Wells. The final will be held at Sussex County Croquet Club in Southwick on Sunday.
