Almshouses party perfect to a tea
The Cutbush and Corral Charity, which has been providing almshouses in Maidstone since 1865, threw a party for its residents, staff and trustees.
Around 100 people gathered at The Orangery at Turkey Mill, including the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Marion Ring.
After a welcome speech from the chairman of the trustees, Caroline Highwood, the guests tucked into a scrumptious tea and were entertained by Kevin, a Ratpack-style swing singer.
The charity is currently looking for an additional trustee. Anyone interested in the post should apply to the clerk and chief officer Liz Abi-Aad on 01622 765612. No qualifications are needed other than an interest in housing and matters affecting the elderly. The duties involve attending around four meetings a year. Imagine conscription sees the flower of our female youth sent off to war to be either killed, maimed or traumatised unlike their men who would stay in the relative comfort of home.
Imagine that the majority of crime is committed by women and that men who commit the same crimes are given shorter sentences.
Imagine a world where women work more paid hours than men, do the dangerous and dirty occupations and were paid more and then men complained they weren’t paid the same.
Imagine a world where more women sleep rough and commit suicide more often and where men retired five years earlier and lived five years longer.
Imagine a world where an allegation, unsupported by evidence by a man of wrongdoing by a female led to the destruction of her career and reputation on the grounds that a man must always be believed.
Imagine a world where men then complained they were victims of discrimination and accused women of womansplaining.
In that world would you say men or women were the privileged gender?
Then imagine a world where these roles were reversed. Then imagine men started to raise their voices and suggest that just maybe male privilege is an illusion.
Wouldn’t that be something? This is not to suggest that there aren’t genuine issues in respect of opportunities for both sexes but simply to say there is a male perspective.
I’ve heard it said that the battle of the sexes was one where one side, men, never turned up. Perhaps it is time men’s voices were heard.
Ladies, recognise your privilege.
