Kobs beaten by rivals in battle at top

-

K Sports men were edged 1-0 by Old Williamsonians in a top-of-the-table game.

The teams went into Saturday’s clash level on points in Kent Area Division 2 but Kobs lost despite having lots of possession and chances. Tireless running in midfield from James Clarkley and

Mike Nock in a good start saw Kobs winning key balls which allowed them to feed Ewan Hendry, Neil Smith and Ben Newmarch.

OWs absorbed the pressure well and started to make chances themselves, with Ali Burt making several several fine saves and the defence some superb tackles before an attacker got a slight touch to make the breakthrough.

Kobs came out in the second half determined to get something out of the game, working hard to win 50/50 balls and going close through Matt Sharp, Smith, Hendry, Brook Fowler and Newmarch.

They kept trying but the goal wouldn’t come.

K Sports ladies continued their winning streak in Kent Division 3 with a 2-0 victory at Folkestone.

The home team started well but Phoebe Tresnan, Tracy Wyatt and Charlie Frampton made strong tackles to keep them at bay.

K Sports took the lead near the end of the first half when Erica Yeong finished on her reverse stick.

Sharna Ambanpola made excellent runs up the right on her debut, securing the playerof-the-match award, as K Sports started the second half positively.

The clinching goal came from a short corner with Ellie Newmarch deflecting the ball past the keeper after Jo Fowler and Becki Austin combined. Lou Griva made an amazing save to deny Folkestone a consolation.

The men’s 3rds rued missed chances after Holcombe equalised with a penalty flick in the dying seconds of their Kent Division 3 game.

Kobs took the lead just before half-time when captain Nick Shread received the ball on the right, beat a couple of players and pulled the ball back to

Zac Mitchell, who set up Mark Brown’s powerful finish.

The second half was more testing for Kobs but they had opportunities to put the game to bed, with crosses flashing across the D.

They couldn’t take them and Holcs were given penalty-flick lifeline after a foul by keeper Aaron Divall. Man-of-the-match Jamie Ker and Adam Smith showed great promise in defence, playing either side of Richard Gower.
