Youngsters show talent

Junior stars from Tonbridge Juddians under-12s are continuing to make waves thanks to their performance at this weekend’s Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.

TJs took to the pitch at Hendon RFC in an event hosted by Saracens, helping celebrate the 12th season of the nationwide grassroots rugby initiative, with 19 teams strutting their stuff across an under-12 and under-11 festival. In the under-12 competition Tonbridge Juddians demonstrated plenty of effort and skill but fell just short of earning a trip to the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final on June 20.

Despite missing out on a place at Twickenham, Tonbridge Juddians’ William Beaton was still proud of his side’s performances.

“I wouldn’t say this festival is too different from any of the others we’ve been to, but I’ve definitely been looking forward to it for a while,” he said.

“We come to quite a few of these competitions, and the best thing about them is just being able to play with my friends and as part of a team. “We did well – we tackled really well and always made sure we had good pressure on the other team throughout the games.

“These are some of our strengths and things we often do quite well generally, and we came here really confident we can get to Twickenham.

“My favourite thing about rugby is just the intensity and the contact side of it, but I also enjoy other parts such as the teamwork.

“I’ve made some great friends from rugby which is also one of my favourite elements.”
