Engine-ious way to reach Santa via train

-

Children looking to send their festive wish list to Santa Claus were able to visit a Post Train to guarantee they get their requests to him in time for Christmas.

The gold and white train pulled into Jubilee Square Station, in Maidstone, on Friday. One Maidstone, a not-for-profit organisation, which works to improve the town’s trading envrionment, had a hotline with the elves to arrange the letter delivery service.

It was sponsored by the organisers of Ramblin’ Man Fair and children were able to drop their requests for Father Christmas into special post sacks on board. The train chugged into the County Town on Friday morning and departed on Monday. It comes as the town is preparing for a flurry of festiveness.

Fremlin Walk is hosting its very own Elfie Station which will be in place from 2pm today (Thursday). Youngsters will be able to dress up as their best elf, while there will also be stilt walking nut crackers and festive flower girls.

The Lindy Hoppers will also be dancing in the shopping centre. Four hours of festivities will take place ahead of the Christmas Light Switch On at 6.30pm in Jubilee Square, later today. Hollyoaks’ actor Jack Quickenden will help turn on the lights and will perform a song, as will pupils from Molehill Primary Academy.

Jake will be with other actors he set to share the stage with during the Hazlitt Theatre’s pantomime of Beauty and the Beast. The event is supported by the Kent Messenger’s radio station kmfm and the entire entertainment runs between 5-7pm.

Last year the town missed out on a lights switch-on. This year’s colour scheme will be red and white.
