-

Tom Carpenter’s winning streak at the Maidstone parkrun was ended by an unregistered runner. Carpenter had to settle for second place on Saturday, finishing in 16min48sec, with Jordan Chambers third in a PB of 17.33.

Paul McAuliffe (VM60-64) took the top age-graded score with 81.06% for his time of 20.30 and seventh place out of 233 runners.

Dragons members were in action at the weekend, with Pat Burden first VW65+ at the Marden 10k in 1:16.51. Tony Rea was second MV70+ in the Marden Half-Marathon, recording 1:54.33, while Deepak Myanger finished in 2:02.39.

Vikie Garrett completed the Bedgebury Half-Marathon in 2:52.28.

Aylesford took a big step forward in their efforts to get their London 3 South East season back on track but came up just short against a strong Ashford side, losing 26-20.

The table-topping visitors have made a habit of winning, bulldozing through Kent 1 last season before embarking on an unbeaten campaign so far. Contrastingly, a difficult few weeks for the Bulls had left them mid-table and in need of a good performance. From the first whistle both sides began smashing into each other up front but it was Ashford who had the lion’s share of possession and looked the more determined of the two sides. A strong Bulls defence kept them at bay but it was only a matter of time before Ashford gave up on route one and swung the ball wide, going over in the corner for an unconverted score. From the restart the visitors continued to pile on the pressure. Bulls weren’t making it easy for them but Ashford played through the phases well and were able to go over in the corner again, this time adding the extras.

Another incredible year of racing has seen Abellio SFA’s Geoff Wiles win 17 world and national championship medals on both track and road.

During a busy season, Wiles travelled to Belgium to compete in the VWF 63+ World Road Race Championship. At 75, he was the most senior competitor in the 63+ category but secured third place for the bronze medal.

In June, he travelled to

Newport for the British Cycling National Masters Track Championships, winning gold medals and champion jerseys in the scratch race and the individual pursuit, breaking the world record by 10 seconds. In September, he was back on the Newport Velodrome again to take two gold and three silver medals in the LVRC National Championships. In October, Wiles and wife Barbara travelled to Manchester to compete in the UCI World Masters Track Championships.

Between them, they brought home 10 world medals and three world champion jerseys.

Wiles was up against some fierce competition from Australia, USA, France, Trinidad and his nemesis from England, Geoff Cooke. He earned bronze in the time trial and scratch race, silver in the points and then finished his competition with an amazing ride to take the world championship gold in the individual pursuit.
