A great-grandmother is positively pink with pride over her impressive collection of 1,404 Pink Panthers.

June Amos, from Broadstairs, has been collecting memorabilia of the iconic cartoon cat since the 1980s when husband Don bought her a large Pink Panther toy at London Zoo.

For the 79-year-old, it sparked an obsession which has continued through the decades and led to her filling a whole room - and other parts of her house - with toys, ceramics, jigsaws and keepsakes of the famous TV character.

“Don bought me my first Pink Panther, a big one, and that’s what started me off and I just carried on,” she said.

“They are hard to come by now, you have to look.

“We used to get the ceramics from antique fairs.”

She says she now has lots of the same toys, but she is awaiting a new Christmas edition Pink Panther all the way from America.

“Don got it on Ebay - when that one gets here I’ll have 1,405,” she said.

The grandmother-of-seven has turned their daughter’s former bedroom into a Pink Panther haven and it is now a sea of pink.

But other parts of the house haven’t escaped, with two cabinets bursting full of ceramics and scatterings of pink around the house.

Mrs Amos says her favourite item is a music box with the Pink Panther being chased by the inept French police detective, Inspector Jacques Clouseau.

She says she also loves the TV series and her favourite version of the film is 1963’s The Pink Panther with Peter Sellers. So what does Mr Amos think of her collection?

“He doesn’t really mind it although he likes the ceramics more than the soft toys,” she said.

“Saying that, we’ve got an airing cupboard near them and if he ever knocks one on the floor when he opens it, he apologises to the toy.”
