Greenhalgh signs until end of season after release from Darts

-

Ben Greenhalgh has joined Tonbridge on a deal to the end of the season after leaving Dartford.

Greenhalgh’s contract at Princes Park was cancelled, leaving the 27-year-old forward free to sign for the Angels after an impressive loan spell. Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm said: “Ben’s done well for us on loan.

He’s added that bit of quality and experience we needed as well.

“He wasn’t going to get any game time at Dartford so it was it in everyone’s interests that he cancelled his deal there and signed for us.

“He’s a good addition to the squad, as he’s proved in his time with us, and he tells me he’s loving his football here. “I don’t think he wanted to leave Dartford if I’m being honest – it was forced upon him because he wasn’t going to play – but he’s not hidden the fact that if he was going to go anywhere, he would come to us.”

Greenhalgh scored a wonder free-kick on his Angels debut in November and has since helped McKimm’s side climb out of the National League South relegation zone.

They’re 19th after beating Chippenham 3-2 on Saturday through goals from Jason Williams, D’Sean Theobalds and Joe Turner.

But victory came at a price with Williams (hamstring), Alex Bentley (calf) and Jack Parter (ankle) all going off injured inside 35 minutes.

The trio will be monitored before Tonbridge’s trip to Braintree this weekend, while Harry Donovan serves a one-match ban following his red card against Chippenham.

McKimm said: “As well as the three coming off, we’ve got a couple carrying niggles and Harry Donovan is suspended, so we’re down to the bare bones at the moment.

“It was a great win and one we needed to build on our good performance at Maidstone and keep that momentum going.

“If we’d been able to keep the starting XI out on the park it might have been easier than it was but to be pegged back twice and still win the game showed great character.”

Angels, who are a point clear of the bottom two, are wary of this weekend’s opponents.

Braintree were the form team in the division when Tonbridge pulled off a 5-1 win at Longmead in October.

And they go into the Angels clash on the back of another beating after suffering a shock 6-0 defeat at Dulwich Hamlet.

McKimm said: “Every club gets results like that. We beat them 5-1 before and they’ll be wanting revenge, I would imagine, so we have to be careful of that. If we can get a result there after a draw at Maidstone and beating Chippenham, it won’t be a bad 10 days for us.”

Tonbridge’s Kent Senior Cup tie against Folkestone on Tuesday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Jon Rogers’ early strike saw Bearsted beat Erith Town in the Southern Counties

East Premier Division on Saturday.

The midfielder scored the only goal after just six minutes at Honey Lane as Kevin Stevens’ side moved up to ninth place in the table.

There was not such a good start to the year for K

Sports, though, following a

4-0 home defeat by Punjab United.

Janiah Boyd and Bryan Zepo gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break, with Rob Brown and Will Johnson-Cole adding further goals.

In Division 1, Darren Neavin gave Snodland Town a halftime lead at FC Elmstead but Richard Atkins levelled and went on to score a last-minute winner.

This Saturday, Bearsted are on the road when they visit Canterbury City and K Sports go to Lordswood, while Snodland are at home to Kennington.
