Getting fit is as easy as one, two, chi
No previous experience was required at the latest tai chi event hosted by Bodhi Training. People of all ages came together at St Nicholas Hall in Poplar Grove, Allington, for the session.
The group, organised by Jennie Lichfield aims to get people moving and keep them fit with the gentle exercise.
The ancient form of group activity helps increase flexibility and improves overall body strength.
According to the NHS, studies have shown it can particularly benefit people aged 65 wanting to reduce stress.
It is hoped the group also provides people with the chance to make friends and socialise in a new environment.
As well as its health benefits, the non-competitive martial art is known for its self-defence techniques.
Ms Lichfield has been teaching mindfulness for the last five years.
She said: “My classes remove all the low bending or high kicks often seen in more traditional forms of tai chi, making it accessible for everyone. They are particularly ideal for beginners.” Several of the moves are repeated throughout the 45-minute class so even a complete novice can hope to learn the routine.
Those interested in joining the next session should head to the Bodhi Training Facebook page to learn more.
The classes are held every Friday at midday with no requirement to book in advance.
All the meet ups are designed to be inclusive, and even those who would prefer to take part sat down are welcome, especially beginners.
Tickets cost £5 on the door.
