Hundreds of trees being illegally cut

Hundreds of trees in bluebellri­ch woodland have been illegally felled.

Police are investigat­ing after several acres off Scragged

Oak Road, Detling, were targeted by loggers who do not own the land.

Those responsibl­e are understood to be be selling the timber on Facebook. Suspicious activity began in March and has occurred on at least two occasions since. Fly tipping has also been reported.

A police spokesman said: “Officers are investigat­ing the unauthoris­ed felling and theft of trees from an area of privately-owned woodland.

“Kent Police was initially called on March 23 to a report an area of trees had been illegally felled. The matter was investigat­ed by the Rural Task Force but no arrests were made.

“On July 4 the victim reported further felling had taken place affecting around three acres. ”
