Woman escapes car fire and falls to her death
Man arrested at the scene is released after police satisfied foul play was not to blame for tragedy
A 24-year-old law graduate plunged to her death while desperately seeking help after the car she was in caught fire. Azra Kemal died after falling from a bridge on the A21 between Sevenoaks and Tonbridge in the early hours last Thursday.
Her distraught mother, Nevres Kemal, revealed her only child had pleaded with paramedics: ‘Please don’t let me die’. Ms Kemal, a social worker from north London, told MailOnline: “She truly was the air that I breathe. There is no life in the home. That is all I live for, for her.
“She was my world. She doted on me and I doted on her.” Emergency services were called just after 2.30am.
Police believe Azra was travelling in the car with a companion before it caught fire.
It is understood they got out and, while trying to seek help, Azra fell to her death from a bridge.
Tragically, she could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 31-year-old man from London was arrested in connection with the incident, with forensics called in to investigate and the road closed for 11 hours. However, the man has since been released without charge as police are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances. They are are now preparing a report for the coroner in anticipation of an inquest.
Many of Miss Kemal’s friends paid tribute by remembering her on Friday at a memorial gathering in Haringey, north London.
