No masking the dangers of coronavirus

-

You’d be forgiven for being confused about the Government’s latest messages on coronavirus.

Suddenly we can go to the cinema, have a drink with friends and go to the gym yet a trip to the supermarket to pick up some essentials is now fraught with new, stricter rules.

Even at the height of lockdown, where a stroll lasting more than an hour was frowned upon, we could still grab some milk without wearing protective equipment and not risk a tap on the shoulder.

Scientific advice now shows that wearing a face covering may protect others. Confusingly, the coverings will not be made compulsory in offices, the health secretary has said – despite Government sources claiming they could pave the way out of working from home.

And some councils around the UK have introduced rules recommending people were masks in all enclosed spaces. Those we spoke this week seemed to take the existing new rules in good spirits some colour co-ordinating their masks and others adding comical messages.

The truth is, even if they didn’t do anything for our own health the psychological effect of seeing everyone in protective gear has got to be helping us to remember not to get complacent in the fight against this virus.

Of course there are problems attached - not to mention that eating garlicky meals before shopping are a now a no-no. But if it helps us contain this evil virus, I’m sure we can put up with it.

In true British fashion it seems we might also be able to have a little fun with it too.
