Collection catch-ups this week
Wheelie bins littering the streets may be coming to an end this week as councils catch-up with collections. Residents across many Kent boroughs had been advised to take their bins back last week when they were not emptied because of disruption to services.
Contractors across the county have been working hard to catch up after collections were disrupted due to the recent snow and ice. In Maidstone, bins left out for emptying were still on pavements last week.
The borough council advised anyone whose recycling waste was due to be collected to put it back out this week. A statement on its website said crews were to do a double collection so any extra materials could be put in a cardboard box or clear sack Black bins were to be collected as usual, though the authority warned work was to be completed by two separate crews, so it was likely they would be emptied at different times of the day.
There were also problems in Canterbury and Swale, which covers Sittingbourne, Faversham and the Isle of Sheppey.
Violent bully Daryl Parkin was sent to prison with the words of his ex-lover ringing in his ears.
As he listened from a room at Elmley Prison, his former sweetheart addressed him in a letter.
The defiant victim said: “Daryl, where do I start? I was in love with you. I was happy, bubbly and felt like I could take on the world.
“But slowly you chipped and chipped away at me..and I became someone I didn’t know anymore.
“But I won’t allow you to control me anymore. I am free from you now and hopefully in time I will be back to the old me.”
The court heard how Parkin had convictions for attacking two previous partners, in 2010 and 2015.
Investigating officer PC
Scott Spedding said: “Parkin carried out extremely violent assaults on his victim and caused her significant physical injuries which left her in fear. “He is clearly a danger to women and poses a risk to them.
“There is never any excuse to resort to violence and domestic abuse is something Kent Police takes very seriously.”
