Laps of honour for Harry, six
A determined young boy with cerebral palsy has raised more than £1,000 for a children’s charity as he undertakes a gruelling challenge.
Harry Hate, six, is fundraising for Tree of Hope based in Tonbridge, by walking the width of his living room 10 times every evening for 30 consecutive days. Mum Samantha explained where the idea to do the challenge, which they started last Monday, came from. “Basically, he just decided one day,” said the 33-yearold.
“We were just sitting, chatting and I said about people doing charity (challenges) and things like that.
“He said ‘Well, maybe I could do that’. I said ‘Well, we can think about something’. “First of all, I said we would do five goes across the living room because, obviously, it is really hard for him.
“But he said ‘No. I want to do 10’.”
Mrs Hate admits the family, from North Down, Staplehurst, have been stunned by the reaction to the Staplehurst School student’s efforts.
She said: “We thought
it would be nice to raise a couple of hundred pounds or something, something that Harry can say he has done and it is an achievement for him. But then, it just kept getting bigger.”

These were the dramatic scenes after a bin store near flats caught fire.
The outbuilding, in River Bank Close, Maidstone, were alight just after 10.15pm on Friday, March 5.
Two fire engines attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire using water carried on the fire engine tanks and a hydrant on Square Hill Road.
There are no reports of any injuries and the cause is thought to be accidental.
Four metal bins and eight plastic wheelie bins were destroyed by the fire. Firefighters had put out the flames just after 11pm.
Callum Swan, who lives nearby, captured these pictures of the blaze.
