The breach of trust was ‘astounding’

-

The school revealed it has fully supported the police investigation into Andrew Cakebread’s crimes.

Its head said: “We can confirm a former staff member has been convicted of offences relating to indecency. “The school has fully supported Kent Police in their investigations.

“The member of staff left the school’s employment several years before. They were in a non-teaching, nonclass-based role and were never left unsupervised with children.

“Kent Police has assured us that no pupil was involved in any way.”

Investigating officer

Christina Rookes added: “The breach of trust in this case is astounding.

“Andrew Cakebread used this trust to spy on people in their private activities. “Additionally he accessed a large amount of child abuse images, fully understanding the impact upon the children involved, but nonetheless continued to exploit them. “I am pleased our detailed investigation has uncovered the full extent of his offending and that he has been brought to justice.”

A mass gathering planned in Mote Park, Maidstone at the weekend was called off at the eleventh hour by the organiser.

Barber Metin Warwick had called for people to gather near the cafe, saying: “Bring family, friends, dogs, cats, kids, or just come alone because you won’t feel alone when you get there.”

But it was a different story Sunday morning after criticism from the police for breaking Covid rules.

In a Facebook post, Mr Warwick, 39, said: “Unfortunately I won’t be exercising at Mote Park today due to a planned police presence after the local rag decided to do their part in causing problems.

“I don’t want to see anyone get fined nor arrested and that’s what will happen, mark my words!”

Mr Warwick achieved notoriety in November after continuing to operate his barber’s during lockdown. He was visited by the police and ultimately locked out of his rented premises in Churchill Square in Kings Hill by his landlord.

Under existing rules, it is still illegal to travel away from home and meet in groups.
