Sides set for promotion?

-

Corinthian look set to be promoted to the Isthmian League as part of the FA’s non-league restructure. There are also three promotion places set to be handed to Southern Counties East Division 1 sides, moving them up a level to the Premier Division.

The FA’s Alliance and League Committees are making the recommendation to the FA Council which could be rubber-stamped as early as next Thursday.

The formula used for promotion is based on unweighted points per game average, using results from the supposed null and void 2019/20 campaign and the 2020/21 season which was ‘curtailed’.

Corinthian averaged 2.38 points over the course of the two seasons, pipping Sheppey United (2.22) and Chatham Town (2.21).

The three clubs from Division 1 who look set to be elevated are Kennington (2.28 ppg), Holmesdale (2.20) and Rusthall (2.09), the latter’s points per game average being just 0.02 better off than Rochester United. n Details have been revealed of a cup competition involving five teams from the Southern Counties East League.

Sheppey, Chatham, Lordswood, Punjab United and Rochester will compete for honours in a Post Lockdown Cup competition that is set to get under way on May 18.

Clubs will hope to be allowed to admit fans from midMay onwards. The five clubs have been without league football since the SCEFL was curtailed.

Teams will play each other twice in a mini-league format before the top two face each other in a final on June 22.
