Untaxed vehicle not moved for six months

A car apparently left abandoned in a street for six months remains there – despite the council saying it would be removed last month.

Residents of Norrington Road, Loose, have begun to question the time taken to remove what is becoming a landmark for their street.

The car in question is a Skoda Fabia which has been left unclaimed for more than six months.

Now the car sits clamped and without MOT or road tax since September.

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has left a notice on the window saying the owner has 15 days to act before it deals with it – a warning which has gone unheeded.

One resident said: “It’s been there for so long it just blends into the background like a flower in a garden – you just get used to it.

“My thing is if the DVLA are going to do something with it then why haven’t they done so yet?”

A clamp has been attached to the car since June 30 with the NSL – the removal department of the DVLA – issuing a 48-hour response warning.

The following Tuesday, two men were seen trying to unsuccessfully jump start the car – they have not been seen since.

The car has affected the flow of traffic in that area since its arrival in December.

Another resident said: “It’s just chaos down this road because we’re on the school run so it just obscures people’s view.

“It is a problem particularly around these times but everyone here has to live with it.

“It’s been there for so long it’s

just become part of the landscape.

“We don’t know why it’s there – I reported it in case it was stolen but nothing has been done about it except for when I came back from holiday we noticed it had been clamped.”

Mark Neary, who lives in the area believes something unfortunate may have happened to the owner.

Before the car was in its current location it sat outside his

house on Berwyn Grove and he

noticed an elderly man check on the vehicle two to three times a week.

At the start of December last year he saw the car been taken on a removal truck.

It was returned and dropped in its current location .

According to the notice, police have been made aware of the issue but do not get involved unless the vehicle is causing a dangerous obstruction.

The DVLA and MBC have both been asked for a comment.
