Intolerance of ‘woke’ is a worry

-

Being fashionable seems to mean silencing dissenting voices via reputation and career destruction, cancellation, visits from the police to check your thinking, social media mobbing and even prosecution under the hate speech laws.

Those who follow its creed claim to be liberal and caring, representing marginalised voices.

They also assume certain groups are privileged over others.

This intersectional hierarchy is a deeply flawed analysis of human beings and takes little account of an individuals’ circumstances.

In this ideology you are expressly judged according to the colour of your skin rather than the content of your character and this from those who claim to be anti-racist!

There is more diversity within groups than between them.

This new religion insists we follow its tenets, dissenters are heretics and there is no forgiveness for them and repentance is impossible.

In a noble attempt to make a better world its followers have replaced historic intolerances with new ones.

Is this really progress or are we deluding ourselves?

A truly liberal place would allow for all viewpoints to be heard in the public square, especially those who are in the minority.

As Alexander Solzhenitsyn put it, ‘the line between good and evil cuts through every human heart’.

If the woke believe they cannot be challenged and that their word is final then they are foolish.

Free Speech is essential to progress. The truth is out there.

If we lose it it will be our own fault and those who consider themselves woke will realise too late what they have given up.
